Teaching the History and Culture
The Education Division is dedicated to helping Himdag Ki: visitors gain an understanding of the history and culture of the O’odham. This is achieved through thoughtfully planned audio-visual presentations, tours, exhibitions development and hands-on activities. The outreach efforts of the Education Division staff have brought O’odham historical and cultural information to schools, communities and organizations both on and off the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Family Histories
The Himdag Ki: Library & Archives holds Family History Workshops to help families identify and record their stories. Himdag Ki: staff uses genealogical programs and other databases to assist participants in their search for information on family members. The information is saved on disc for members who may continue to add update their family histories.

Oral Histories
Tohono O’odham community members, especially elders, may record their stories and personal information about traditional cultural practices in the Cutural Center audio studios. Audio recordings can be made by individuals at any time. Upon request, Himdag Ki: staff will also interview members, providing audio-visual support. Members are encouraged to deposit the recordings in the museum archives. These recordings will be protected according to the wishes of the interviewee.

Storytelling
“Storytellers” may use the outdoor Storytelling Circle, the Elders’ Room, or the Amphitheater Stage to tell stories to O’odham audiences. Some storytelling events are sponsored by Himdag Ki:.
